Rust in peace – la bleue

Mobylette Mobymatic

While cruising Hobart over my 2014/15 Christmas break I came upon this svelte little moped out the front of an antique dealer. Turns out to be a french Mobylette Mobymatic. I think it needs some very light resto and a postie bike engine transplant….save the rust as it adds to the charm.

About half of the 30 million Mobylettes sold since 1949 were a model nicknamed la bleue (the blue) so called because they first sold in just one color. Mobylettes carried young french lovers on first dates and farmers to market. Postmen used them to deliver mail, and teenagers were allowed by law to ride them without a license at 14.
